Gender Studies program staff in SSEE include:

  • Associate Professor Maila Stivens - Co-ordinator, Gender Studies - an anthropologist whose research interests include  gender relations globally, global/transnational feminisms, globalisation, modernity and postmodernity in social theory, family, kinship and the household world-wide, nationalism, growth of new middle classes, human rights, with special reference to gender and childhood,  'matriliny'. Maila Stivens has carried out research on: middle class kinship in Sydney; in Malaysia on 'matrilineal' Negeri Sembilan; on modernity, work and family among the new Malay middle classes; 'public' and 'private' in Southeast Asia; the 'Asian Family'; on Family Values East and West; and is currently working on an ARC project on New Asian Childhoods.
  • Dr Kalissa Alexeyeff - whose research interests include expressive culture in particular dance and music in the Cook Islands and the Asia-Pacific region more generally, gender politics cross-culturally, colonialism and contemporary feminist thought.
  • Dr Maree Pardy - whose research interests include gender, identity, sexuality and globalisation. Australian nationalism, multiculturalism.
  •  

    Other staff across the Faculty of Arts and in other facultie contribute to the program.
