Undergraduate Major in Anthropology
The Anthropology program offers a Major in Anthropology which can be undertaken as part of a standard Bachelor of Arts degree. If you are planning a career in the fields of development or environmental issues, you would be well advised to combine this major with a major in Development or Environmental Studies with the School. Alternatively, you can combine this major with a major in another department of the Faculty of Arts.
To enrol in the Bachelor of Arts degree, you need to meet the relevant Faculty admission requirements (for details see the University of Melbourne Undergraduate Studies Handbook, the VTAC Guide, or the Faculty of Arts Office). There are no other prerequisites for Anthropology and you do not need to have studied Anthropology before.
If you wish, you can do just one or two Anthropology subjects to complement other areas of study within a Bachelor of Arts degree, or other degrees. Areas which recognise the value of a cross-cultural perspecive by including one or more anthropology subjects in their options for a major include: Sociology, Social Theory, Australian Indigenous Studies, Development Studies, Women's Studies, Asian Studies and Australian Studies.
