Research Interests
Interested in the Pacific region in general, Mary's major fieldwork has been in Vanuatu spanning the colonial to post colonial periods. Her major theoretical interests are in kinship and gender, indigenous knowledge, cosmologies and power relations and the local refractions of global politics in relation to development.
Current Research
Her current research, funded by an ARC discovery grant is in a comparative project entitled Managing Modernity: capitalism, globalisation and governance in Melanesia.
